What is a hybrid AI microdrama?

A hybrid AI microdrama is a vertical series that mixes filmed and generated shots: the lead performances are shot with real actors, and AI makes what is costly to stage, such as extra coverage, locations, inserts and other languages. In Volta Studio a project can be set to Hybrid, so filmed and AI shots share one script, one shot list and one schedule, and the live footage is finished in Premiere or Resolve.

Why make a microdrama hybrid?

A fully filmed season costs a shoot per episode, and a fully generated one can struggle with performance. Hybrid puts the money where the audience looks: on faces in the scenes that carry the story, with AI around them.

Which shots go live, and which go AI?

Decide per shot, from what the shot has to do.

  • Film it: close-ups that carry the emotion, dialogue that turns the story, anything that depends on a real performance.
  • Generate it: establishing shots, places you cannot get to, crowds, weather, inserts and extra angles.
  • Either way: a shot can start as an AI placeholder on the board, and be replaced when it is filmed.

How does a hybrid project work in Volta?

A project says how it is made: AI, Live or Hybrid. Hybrid keeps the production tools on, so the same project runs both sides.

  • One script and one breakdown, whichever way a shot is made.
  • Each shot marked as filmed or AI on the one shot list.
  • The Production page for the filmed part: the stripboard, the schedule and the call sheets.
  • Stills and video generated from the shots themselves, in the same cast and locations.

What about the actors' faces and voices?

Using a real person's likeness with AI needs their permission, on the record. Volta keeps that record: the actor approves what may be used, after an identity check, and a check code travels with the finished work so anyone can confirm it. The Real actors page explains each step.

Where does the edit happen?

Volta's Cut is built for AI work. Live footage belongs in Premiere or Resolve, so a hybrid project hands off: Volta takes care of the writing, planning and generated shots, then sends the assembly and its files to your editor. Filmed and generated shots meet there.

Common questions

What is the difference between AI, live-action and hybrid microdramas?
A live-action microdrama is filmed, an AI microdrama is generated, and a hybrid mixes the two inside one series. Most hybrids film the performances and generate what is costly to stage.
Is a hybrid microdrama cheaper than a filmed one?
It usually costs less to make than filming everything, because locations, crowds and extra coverage come from AI instead of a shoot. How much depends on the share of filmed scenes and how many takes you run. In Volta the price of every generation shows before you run it.
Do I need permission to use an actor with AI?
Yes. Get written consent for their face and voice, and keep the record. Volta records consent for real actors, and the rules that apply are for your own lawyer to confirm in your country.
Can I edit a hybrid series inside Volta?
Not the filmed footage. Volta's Cut is for AI work, and live footage is finished in Premiere or Resolve. Volta hands the assembly over to them.
